A back to school post in the middle of the semester?! That makes no sense, but for me this is the first time I have been back at school for a while so I wanted to take a minute and go over what has helped me get back into the swing of things. At first I struggled. I could not get back into it. I was doing things at the last possible minute. I remember one weekend in January I was sitting in my bed working on something that was due Monday and I decided that this was no way to work. I went through every single syllabus, and wrote down every assignment I had due through the end of February and got to work.
That first weekend kind of sucked. I had to do a TON of work to a) get caught up and b) get ahead but once I finished it all I felt so much better. After you do that initial day the rest of it can be a piece of cake as long as you keep up with what you have. My general rule of thumb is doing work 1 to 2 weeks ahead of time. That way incase a teacher springs some work on me I don’t get overwhelmed.
I’ve also found that I have moods, in all areas of my life haha. I will get in a mood where all I want to do is work out, then I will get into a mood where all I want to do is blog, and then I also get into moods where I really want to crank out some work. I try not to ignore these moods because I feel like I am generally happier when I give into the moods and do what I really want to do. By being ahead on school work I always give myself the ability to do what I want to do without feeling like I am procrastinating.
I also ditched the stuff that didn’t work. I used to be a person that had a folder for every class and a notebook to go with it. I would use like 5 pages of each and I never really pay attention to what I wrote. I do ALWAYS have my laptop with me so I started taking all of my notes on my laptop and using google doc folders to keep it all organized. I also purchased all of my books online, this helps me keep all of my stuff in one place! (If I broke my laptop I would be doomed)
There have also been a wide array of interesting predicaments since I arrived at school, but that’s a post for another time. For now lets just focus on class and getting through midterms with straight A’s.
